Rose
Once upon a time, there was a
beautiful garden that contained a very special rose bush. The bush had many
little rose buds. They were just babies now. Playing, giggling and just being
happy. One day they would all mature into flowers. Some of them would be
messengers of love. Some would adorn a bedroom. Some would provide solace to
the grief-struck. Some would find a permanent place in someone’s diary
reminding them of “the one that got away”.
The clock was ticking. Days passed
and the roses reached adolescence. One by one they all opened themselves to
welcome life. The sweet fragrance from their core travelled all the way out and
filled the garden, seducing every passer-by. All of them bloomed. All, but one.
Rose. She was still sleeping,
refusing to wake-up. Was she in a trance? Clock kept ticking, days kept
passing, but she didn’t wake up. One fine day, a swoosh of strong breeze shook
her up. She was so offended and almost screamed.
“Hey... What do you think you are doing Mister?”, Rose demanded.
“I am just waking you up Rose”, Breeze replied naughtily as he flicked her
petal.
“Don’t you dare touch me. Don’t you know I’m precious?”, she was furious.
“Oh you are very.. My dear Rosie. But it is time princess and you are
late.”, he said.
She checked around looking for her girlfriends. They were all gone. She
was the only one remaining. How did that happen? When did that happen? Why
didn’t anyone wake her up? She was in tears. Where did they all go? Without
taking her?
“They did wait for you, but they had to reach their destinations you know.
They couldn’t wait any longer”, he offered an explanation holding her face in
his soft hands.
Rose looked at Breeze. He looked familiar.
“Heyy... Aren’t you that guy from....? Oh my god, it IS you...!!”, she
exclaimed. She rushed closer, her delicate fingers resting on his shoulders.
Anger and confusion was overcome by love and longing.
“Oh Breezy, why didn’t you come to me before..?”, she cried. “I didn’t
even know I was missing you.”
“I never left, my love. You were reluctant to open your eyes.”, he said.
Tears trickled down her face.
“How did I miss this Breezy? How did I miss you? This is so not what I had
wanted”.
“It’s ok baby. We can’t help it now, can we?” He kissed her tears away.
She hugged him tight and let her emotions flow from her eyes.
After she was done, she let him free of her hug.
“I had forgotten how tall you were!”, she managed a poor joke.
“Why did you come back here now Breezy? What’s the point? It’s sooo
painful. Might as well let me die!”, she digged her fingers in his unkempt hair
as she looked up to him, thinking aloud.
“Oh my dear Rosie”, he took her hand and kissed her palm. “When were you
alive at all? Your life begins now, no matter how painful it is. Remember what
they say ‘Don’t cry because it’s over, Smile because it happened!’”
Her perky Breezy suddenly felt like this solemn man. It was her time to
accept the change in her life.
“That’s pretty deep huh, Breeze”, she said with feigned innocence. He
looked at her in confusion, before realizing she was really joking this time.
She wiped her off tears one last time. They both looked at each other and
started laughing hard.
N then, arm in arm, they started walking together, towards Rose’s
destination!
